Brain Relaxation at Beaches

Spending time outdoors will certainly be very beneficial for both our body and mind, but spending time at the beach will do much more.

The amazing feelings of peace and serenity which we experience when spending time at the beach are now known as “blue space”. That’s the term, which scientists have come up with, when they refer to the effect that the combination of soothing smells and sounds of the waves have on your brain.

The blue space would calm you down in a similar way just like hypnosis would.

Those feelings of serenity and calmness are not just imagination in your head. According to science, spending time at the beach changes the way your brain reacts to the environment, making you happier, more relaxed and full of energy.

All in all, the blue space affects your brain in four ways.

1. Spending time at the beach decreases the stress

Water is the natural healer of stress. That’s due to all the negative ions found in the water. Those ions have the ability to calm you down and make you peaceful. The majority of our time we are surrounded by electronic devices which emit positive ions, so spending as much time as you can far away from them is crucial for relaxation.

It doesn’t matter whether you enjoy long swims or you just want to sit beside the water with your toes gently dipped in it, you’ll definitely feel more relaxed. What’s better than such feeling of relaxation after a hard and stressful day at work?

2. Spending time at the beach improves your creativity

Are you feeling so stressed lately that you find it hard to focus on anything you do? If you are, then scientists advise you to spend more time at the beach.

Spending quality time in the blue space helps you clear your mind and deal with the problems or projects more creatively. Just like meditation, the beach provokes feelings of tranquility which will help you put everything else aside and focus only on what’s important for you at the moment.

3. Spending time at the beach will reduce feelings of depression

Close your eyes and just think about this: the sound of the waves, the feeling of the breeze on your face, the amazing view of sand and water. Don’t you feel calm and relaxed already?

Well that’s the effect the beach has on you. It puts you in a meditative state and helps you deal with anxiety and depression more easily. And how much is this necessary if we consider the stress and nervousness we go through each day?

4. Spending time at the beach will completely change your perspective to life

Finally, spending time at the beach will change your life completely. You’ll have more time to yourself and you’ll learn to slow down the pace of your life. Eventually, you’ll deal with your everyday troubles in a more confident way and feel less anxious.
